Paddle Tech Simplified
Materials, Thickness, Weight & More
Whether you’re chasing your first rally or your fifth tournament title, we’ve got a paddle that fits your game (and your vibe). Each one blends performance materials with tropical flair, so you can bring the chill to every match.
We keep the beach vibes, but our tech is serious. Here’s the plain-English guide to what matters—and how it maps to Kahuna,
Makai, and Woosa.
Face Materials:
Carbon Fiber
What it does: Stiff and durable; disperses impact for precise, consistent ball exit—clean dinks, blocks, and counters.
Who it’s for: Players chasing control and placement.
Our fit: Kahuna (Raw Carbon Fiber) for advanced/intermediate control; Makai (Carbon Fiber) for balanced, confidence-building feel.
Fiberglass
What it does: A bit more flex → a touch more rebound “pop” and an easy, lively response.
Who it’s for: Beginners, families, and social players wanting forgiving contact.
Our fit: Woosa (Fiberglass)— also in 2- and 4-paddle sets.
Core Thickness:
16 mm (thick):
Softer feel, more dwell, larger sweet spot → resets and control. (Kahuna 16 mm, Makai 16 mm)
13–14 mm (mid):
Balanced: faster rebound with solid touch. (Makai 13 mm, Kahuna 14 mm)
10–12 mm (thin):
Most pop & speed; playful for drives/put-aways; requires net discipline. (Woosa 10 mm)
Weight:
Light (~7.3–7.8 oz):
Faster hands & easy maneuvering—great for doubles and developing players.
Mid (~7.9–8.3 oz):
Balanced power + control—often the best all-around start.
Core Construction:
Modern paddles typically use a lightweight, strong polypropylene honeycomb core to distribute impact efficiently and support a forgiving sweet spot.
Shape, Grip & Approval:
Shape:
Standard = stability/forgiveness
Elongated = reach/leverage/power
Grip:
Keep circumference comfy (many players around ~4.25"); check handle length (~5.50") if you hit two-handed backhands.
USA Pickleball:
For sanctioned events, paddles must meet USA Pickleball specs for surface/roughness and construction.
Technology FAQs:
Which thickness is “best”?
There is no universal best, choose based on your play style:
16 mm maximizes control;
13–14 mm blends pop and touch;
10–12 mm adds speed off the face.
Start with thicker if you’re learning resets; go thinner if you crave drive power.
Carbon vs. Fiberglass—how should I choose?
Carbon = stable, consistent contact and refined touch.
Fiberglass = durable, more rebound for easy pace.
What weight should beginners pick?
Midweight is usually the safest all-around start; lighter paddles help with hand speed as you progress.
Need ultimate control?
Try Kahuna→ pick 16 mm for control or 14 mm for a little extra pop.
Prefer balanced finesse?
Try Makai→16 mm for steady touch, 13 mm for faster rebounds.
New to pickleball / family set-up?
Try Woosa → also in 2- and 4-paddle sets for instant game night.
